In a scene reminiscent of “Jaws,” beachgoers panicked and screamed for swimmers to get out of the water because a menacing shark was closing in.
These terrifying moments unfolded in front of and were captured in video by Lisa Bernier as she walked the beach at Hollywood Beach, Florida, on March 4 after disembarking from a cruise.
“It was very scary,” Bernier told the Mirror. “Everyone was yelling ‘shark’ as we were worried for the elderly couple swimming not too far from it.”
In reality, there were two sharks in the immediate area, as seen early on in the video, but only one appeared to be headed right for the swimmers. Here is Bernier’s video via Caters News:
“As soon as the elderly couple realized what was going on, they rushed out of the water,” Bernier said.
Children can be seen playing in the water and being grabbed by their parents to take them to safety ahead of the menacing shark.
“I spoke to the mother than ran in the water, and she said that she was terrified,” Bernier said.
“I have no idea what species it was. It can’t be too big as the water was not that deep, but everyone was worried. Everyone on the beach was watching at the shore.”
The sharks eventually swam back into deep water, but the frightened beachgoers remained on dry ground, afraid to venture back into the water.
