A strange sight greeted travelers along a mountainous road in Greece: a helpless goat hanging by its horns on a telephone wire 20 feet off the ground.

How the goat managed to get itself into this odd predicament is open to conjecture. The more pressing question that faced the group of rescuers upon seeing the stranded animal was, “How are we going to get it down?”

It was no easy task (at least initially), as reported by the Daily Mail and 7 News.

Giannis Goulas, who lives in Sykourio, Larisa, Greece, captured the bizarre rescue on video and posted it on Facebook and YouTube. The Daily Mail provided a shortened version:

Of all the animal rescues you’ve seen over the years -- from cats to dogs to sheep to whatever -- has there ever been one more bizarre than this?

The rescuers at first used a long extension ladder in an attempt to push the animal back toward the high ground where the wires were attached, but that didn’t work, leaving the men to contemplate what to try next.

Finally, they decided to try to attach a rope around the goat’s leg and pull it up to safety. Et voila! Success. A man above pulled the goat toward him as another man came to help.

Eventually, the rope was unfastened by one man as the other untangled the goat from the telephone line. Mission accomplished.

Once free, the goat started down the hill, carefully avoiding a rope lying on the ground before bounding across the road and down the hill.
