Hailing from the surf-stoked zone of Culburra Beach, New South Wales, Australia, Owen Wright is enjoying and incredible comeback year on the 2014 ASP World Tour, currently sitting at 10th place. Since his rookie year, Owen has been a perennial World Tour standout, even battling Kelly Slater to the bitter end of a World Title race in 2011. (Slater ended up taking the title, but Owen Wright made a huge statement that year.) Unfortunately, however, Owen suffered a severe back injury in 2013, derailing his quest for the title and forcing him to sit out for almost an entire year of competition.

Now Owen Wright is charging back up the ratings and improving with every event. Chris Cote caught up with Owen in San Clemente, California, during the waiting period for the Hurley Pro and while at a party for the grand opening of the new headquarters for one of Owen's Sponsors, Dragon Alliance. We pulled Mr. Wright, a.k.a. “The Avatar,” out of the party and put him in to Cote's Cube, where he talked Tahiti, coming back from injury, living a good life, freesurfing, and much more.
