Punks N poets

SAN CLEMENTE, CA (March 10, 2016) — Today Stance announced the newest addition to its elite Punks & Poets lineup, Brazilian pro surfer, Filipe Toledo. Toledo joins fellow team riders John John Florence and Chippa Wilson, rounding out the brand's diverse lifestyle category. The brand is excited to bring talent on board that matches its own progression and consistency in a competitive space.

Toledo joins the team after recently finishing fourth in the World Surf League's (WSL) 2015 season. In 2015, Toledo had the best year of his professional career on the WSL, scoring perfect waves throughout the finals, making him the surfer with the most WSL wins of the year.

"It's easy with Stance because I feel like I'm working with my extended family that gets me and my style," said Filipe Toledo. "My style of surfing and approach to life has no boundaries and Stance mirrors that with their product, no creative boundaries."

His enthusiasm and edgy approach come to life both in and out of the water. There is a natural connection between Toledo and Stance and he will use this partnership to unveil his unique personality and sense of style off the board to the world.

Embracing "The Uncommon Thread" as its mantra, Stance has turned one of the world's most boring accessories into its most exciting in less than five years. Stance's founders saw a category that had been ignored, taken for granted, looked over, dismissed. By breathing life into something that had been overlooked, Stance ignited a movement of art and self-expression that has drawn athletes, performers and iconic cultural influencers to the brand – a group they call the Punks & Poets. And by underpinning its creative roots with a relentless focus on technical innovation, Stance is now found in over 30 countries on the feet of those who dare to be different.

Originally from Ubatuba, Brazil, currently residing in San Clemente, CA, Filipe is the son of Ricardo Toledo, a well respected Brazilian surfer. He started surfing with his father when he was just 10 months old and by 4 years of age, he was already catching waves by himself. In 2015, Toledo had the best year of his professional career on the WSL World Tour, managing to grab his first 3 WSL event wins, getting at least one perfect 10 in each final he competed in. Toledo was also the surfer with the most WSL event wins in 2015, going on to finish the season in 4th place. Filipe brings an interesting edge to surfing, he's progressive and consistent, and above all, what really matters at the end of the day is that he has tons of fun out in the water.
