Jamail Skatepark Hosts Skate, Paint & Rock October 19th

Press Release:

Turn back the calendar to 1979 when professional pool skaters created the maneuvers and tricks utilized in today's modern X Games competitions and formed our skateboarder culture today.  This will be an event and public skate park session like no other.  The list of VIP pro skaters are as follows: Tony Alva, John "Tex" Gibson, Craig Johnson, Steve Olson and Doug "Pineapple" Saladino. This will NOT be a competition or a demo, but a chance to Skate, Rock, and Honor the pioneers who made modern bowl skating into today's sport and culture. This day will feature a very special Hall of Fame pool skater session, an extraordinary urban artist exhibition and live music. Texas Punk legends the Biscuit Bombs, Muhammadali, The Rivers, Talk Sick Brats, DJ Brother Roo and Chingerson will be performing.

The Legends, Sk8, Paint & Rock event will excite and educate our community about art and artist alike through the enrichment of Houston's urban landscape. We will highlight skate culture and will also refresh and revitalize the Jamail Skate Park Skater Alley. The Alley art panels are home to 54 public art installations per year by local aerosol artists, which have highlighted some of Houston best-known urban artists. http://houstonparksboard.org/projects/past/lee_and_joe_jamail_skatepark/

The Legends featured artists are Vizie, Ack!, Eyesore, Dual, Daniel Anguilu, W3r3on3, Sode and Skeez 181. They will paint murals along the entrance corridor and will also be presenting three original works that will be auctioned off during the event.  Our goal is to refurbish the current panels and expand the alley with interactive skate-friendly surfaces and art. We are hopeful that this event will bring the advocacy and attention needed to get the project funded.

The Legends Event is generously underwritten by Jim Petersen, Jr.
Sponsorship by Vans, Ironlak, Whole Foods, Free Press Houston, Sk808 Sound, Sk8lab, Donkey Paw Screen Co., Lola Savannah, Commerce Street Art Gallery and the Houston Parks Board.
