On October 20, Leisure Trends Group , a market research firm measuring trends in leisure and outdoor activities, held a Webinar looking at market trends in the outdoor and outerwear market going into the holiday season. The data according to Leisure Trends, which works closely with SIA, looks encouraging for the rest of the year. Here are some highlights from the presentation.
Despite the prevailing economic winds, the sporting goods category is actually experiencing a solid updraft.
While specialty outdoor retailers saw a decline in units sold, the growth in dollars sold equals improved margins and higher price tags.
The internet channel is on target to continue its robust growth through the year. However, growth rates, although positive, are looking meager for the specialty outdoor retailer.
Outdoor apparel, is at the top of active American's holiday wish list. Snowsports apparel is showing strong indicators as well, while equipment for surf, skate, and snow is lagging.
