After last week's announcement that Mike Carter left his position at Skullcandy, TransWorld Business learned that Carter will be re-joining Electric—a company he helped co-found in 2000— as Vice President of Global Brand Marketing, starting October 12th. Stay tuned for a more in-depth interview with Carter to come soon.
Nate Morley, Skullcandy’s VP of global marketing & creative, will absorb Carter’s roll of handling marketing efforts for Skullcandy’s action sports division. Carter, who formerly reported to Morley, will not be immediately replaced. Here's a statement from Carter on the new position:
"It truly is a new era for the brand. Eleven years later, the stakes have risen significantly, and we're ready for the challenge. Some passions never leave your bloodstream, and this is one of them. Electric's DNA is truly special and cannot be duplicated. I could not be more excited to join the Electric, Volcom, and PPR teams and help to enhance the synergies between all groups.
In talking with Bruce, Kip, Jason, and Richard, we are unified and 110 percent laser focused on the objectives. We have an incredible and extremely unique opportunity to write this next chapter in the Electric story and I'm honored to be a part of it. I look forward to achieving the full potential of this brand."
Carter also reiterated that he has left Skullcandy on good terms, stating “I am a huge believer in the Skullcandy brand and the company. My official last day was Friday and we had a very fun farewell party in true Skullcandy fashion.” This letter also went out to the staff at Skullcandy from Carter:
After two of the most rewarding and exhilarating years of my professional career, I have decided to move on from the Skullcandy brand.
It was always my goal to help Skullcandy achieve recognition and integrity in the board sports industry.
I feel that I have accomplished this goal and now my work is complete.
As most of you know I am a true entrepreneur at heart and I am looking forward to my next endeavor.
I will always be grateful for the opportunity to work with each of you and will always value our friendship. Board sports is a small community and I look forward to seeing the Skullcandy family at industry events.
Our brand is populated with some of the most talented individuals that I have ever worked with and I wish you all the best of success.
Cheers & long live the Skull!
VP Global Board Sports Marketing”
