Gordon’s Golf, Ski, and Snowboards Shop set blaze
Criminal investigation is currently underway
GREENVILLE, N.C. (April 25, 2013) A criminal investigation is underway into a fire that destroyed a local business that had been open for more than 40 years. Greenville Police Detectives confirm a fire at Gordon’s Golf Ski and Snowboards was intentionally set. Firefighters said the fire started just before 9 p.m. Thursday night and no one was inside at the time. 9 On Your Side was the first on the scene Thursday night as the fire raged through the business on Arlington Boulevard.
Emergency crews as well as Greenville Police were on scene and a portion of Arlington Boulevard was closed as they fought the fire.
“The whole showroom was on fire and it was coming through the roof and everything. There was a lot of smoke,” said witness Landis Wilson.
Heavy smoke and water damage lead the building to be condemned Friday. 9 On Your Side talked with owner Gordon Fulp who says he found out around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when his security company called to say someone had broken into the store. When Fulp arrived, he found the thief was a massive fire.
“It’s sort of a shock. Neither one of us slept last night. Just thinking about what to do next and we’re so use to coming in every day,” said Fulp.
Fulp says they are unsure whether they will reopen or sell the business but that decisions will have to come after police finish their investigation into who set the fire.
