ESPN Announces 2015 ESPYS nominees; Voting now open
ESPN has announced its 2015 ESPYS nominees across all categories, including action sports.
For Best Male Action Sports Athlete, the contenders are Ryan Dungey, Josh Sheehan, Nyjah Huston, Mark McMorris, and Tucker Hibbert (snowmobile). On the women’s side, Best Female Action Sports Athlete nominees include Steph Gilmore, Kelly Clark, Paige Alms, and Laia Sanz (moto/enduro). Voting is open through 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15. Friday, June 26, 2015 (Los Angeles, CA) – This week, ESPN announced the nominees for the 2015 ESPYS Presented by Capital One. Nitro Circus's Josh Sheehan, who earlier this year landed the world's first triple backflip on a motorbike, is included in the Best Male Action Sports Athlete and Best Play categories.Best Male Action Sports Athlete honors the rider who made the biggest impact in extreme sports over the past year, and features the finest in motocross, freestyle motocross, skate and snowmobile. In Best Play, Sheehan's landmark triple backflip will square off against Malcolm Butler, whose game-changing interception sealed victory in Super Bowl XLIX for the New England Patriots. Other big names in the tournament-style brackets include NBA champion Stephen Curry, soccer icon Lionel Messi and more.
Josh Sheehan said, "This is a huge honor. To be mentioned with some of the biggest names in sport is incredible. It also shows the importance of going after something you believe in, no matter how many people tell you it can't be done. While there is definitely risk, this is a tremendous reward."

The 2015 ESPYS Presented by Capital One will be hosted by comedian, actor and television host Joel McHale, most widely known for hosting The Soup on E! as well as playing Jeff Winger on Community. The ESPYS will be broadcast live on ABC Wednesday, July 15, at 8 p.m. ET from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The ESPYS gather top celebrities from sports and entertainment to commemorate the past year in sports by recognizing major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments and saluting the leading performers and performances.
