Dragon signs Griffin Colapinto, where he joins some of the sport’s top surfers

San Clemente, Ca. (August 25, 2016) – It’s not often that a one-of-a-kind surfer of such high-caliber and potential comes along. That’s why Dragon is excited to have signed San Clemente local and rising surf star Griffin Colapinto to its list of global surf athletes as he embarks on the beginning of his promising pro career.

With powerful style and a range of tricks up his sleeve, that fact Colapinto is a San Clemente native ties well to Dragon’s history. The brand started just a few miles away from the Colapinto residence, and the Dragon Global HQ is located in his hometown. Raised in a family of die hard surfers, Griffin is focused, and at just 18-years-old, determined to make a name for himself worldwide.

A fan of Dragon’s new Monarch glasses, a medium-fit, Italian-made frame with a slightly rounded outline, Griffin also has great taste when it comes to style. Dragon has been supporting and working with the best athletes since the brand’s beginnings and Griffin joins a prestigious lineup of world class surfers. From Shane Dorian who signed with the brand the day it began, to guys like Rob Machado and Mick Fanning who started as groms, and still ride for the brand today.

“Dragon has their roots right here in San Clemente, so I am super amped to be a part of the family,” says Colapinto. “The new shades are great this year, and being part of such a legendary global surf team makes it even better.”

“Griffin is the real deal, and does it all with a smile on his face,” says Dragon Global Brand Manager Rick Irons. “He’s got a huge bag of tricks with power to match, and the fact that he’s from the same town the brand was born, makes him a great fit for the team.”

Colapinto, who finished runner-up in the North America Pro Junior rankings last year, is a versatile surfer in big waves and grovelers alike. He finished 2015 with a stellar performance in maxed out conditions at the Billabong Pipeline Masters, and has already finished first at the Pipe Pro Junior as well as the Junior Pro in Cabo San Lucas in 2016. He also has a growing fan base with video parts like his recent feature at J-Bay in South Africa that cemented his reputation worldwide.
