The Dew Tour announced the schedule for 2011 as well as changes including athlete integration, cement elements, and new disciplines. The official start of the tour will be in Ocean City, Maryland and continue to Portland, Salt Lake City, ending in Las Vegas with the Dew Tour Championships and Dew Cup Awards Ceremony.
Here’s the rest of the announcement:
Taking a new approach to skateboarding for the 2011 season, street courses will include concrete elements and be designed in conjunction with well known skate construction companies including California Skateparks. In addition, the Tour will feature skate bowl contests.
“I am looking forward to skating new and improved Dew Tour courses,” said Mountain Dew skate athlete Paul Rodriguez. “I think it’s great they’ve decided to change up the contest, and it should definitely help to showcase everyone’s talent.”
New for BMX in 2011, the Dew Tour welcomes BMX legend TJ Lavin as a contributor to the overall BMX program, including dirt course designs.
“I’m really looking forward to being more involved in the Dew Tour this year. It’s a great opportunity to have a hand in designing courses that will push the riders to the next level,” said Lavin. “BMX and action sports in general always benefit from events like the Dew Tour and having athletes so heavily involved – especially building something as important as the courses.”
Each stop of the circuit will feature a different mix of disciplines and specialty competitions, exposing every market to fresh experiences. New for 2011, Ocean City and Portland will offer an additional skate bowl contest. Ocean City will also see the Tour’s first surf contest.
FMX will be a key highlight once again in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, elevated this season with input from and hosted by FMX legend Carey Hart.
I’m really excited to be involved with the Dew Tour again,” said Hart. “It’s such a great event, and an honor for Hart and Huntington and me to be involved for a second year.”
Raising the stakes this year, the prize purse has increased per event along with the year-end bonuses.
The full Dew Tour schedule features multi-sport events at each of the four stops, including skate street and vert. Over the course of the tour, athletes will compete to accumulate points based on their individual event finishes, each vying for the most overall points and the title of Dew Cup champion.
