Curren Caples Tops Skate Streetstyle Podium at Dew Tour Chicago

Chicago, Ill. – June 20, 2015 – Kicking off the first event of the 2015 Dew Tour, the top BMX and skateboard athletes took to Grand Park for a day of exciting competitions. Earning the first victory of the weekend, 19-year-old Curren Caples used his third and final run to take the Skateboard Streetstyle win. Over at Grant Park Skate Plaza, Chad Kerley fed off the Chicago crowd to top the podium in the BMX Street Best Session Final.

In front of a thunderous crowd, Caples put together an impressive run throughout the course, earning a final score of 92.00, which lead to his first Dew Tour Champion title. Saving the best for last, Caples earned the win with his memorable last run, starting with a scoop into the bank, landing a backside air over the pyramid, cruising into a kick flip on top of the trailer, nose grind on the trash can, back smith on the flat bar, lean air to tail smack on the quarter pipe, front feeble to the top of the stage, and finishing with a nose blunt on the down rail.

"I was definitely nervous going into that last run, but knew if I landed my last trick it could be a decent score," said Caples. "It's always fun to see new fans and to skate different places. It's cool to win!"

Louie Lopez challenged Caples until the very end, turning in a solid performance for second place, just missing the top spot with a score of 91.00. Alec Majerus rounded out the podium with a third place score of 89.00. Chicago's own Chaz Ortiz finished in fifth place after a series of strong runs.

The action continued at Grant Park Skate Plaza with the BMX Street Best Session Final. Battling it out through three sections, the lead was constantly in flux as riders' creativity drew celebratory support from the crowd and fellow athletes. In the end, 2013 Street Champion Chad Kerley rode away with the title. His composure allowed him to pull off huge tricks even as he was "winging it" through the contest, landing tricks such as a feeble manual whip, hop up feeble bar out and a fakie into the final ledge. Dennis Enarson, with a score of 88.92, and Sean Ricany, with an 88.00, joined Kerley on the podium, taking second and third, respectively.

"I feel super good about winning, and I love Chicago so much," said Kerley. "I didn't expect the park to be right in the city; when I came in I saw so many kids riding, the scene was so big and it had me stoked to ride here." When asked about Saturday's competition, Kerley responded, "You never know what people are going to bring, but on zone three in particular, people got down heavy like I have never seen."
