Thursday morning, the World Surf League (WSL) announced that they will host an 18-person Air Invitational during the Quiksilver Pro France and an Air Exhibition during the Surf Ranch Pro. The invites will be a combo of free surfers, CT surfers and social fan-voted surfers. A few of the surfers that are already included in the lineup are certified airmen Chippa Wilson, Filipe Toledo, Mikey Wright and Albee Layer.

Former Surfing Airshow Series (SAS) Champion and long-time CT competitor, Josh Kerr is the appointed event director. Kerr said, “My early career and surf inspirations were all about these air events, and the guys pushing the progression of surfing. Now to be a part of bringing the air events back at the highest level of our sport, it’s very special to me. I’m a huge fan of the talent right now, so I can’t wait to see the guys send it in France!”

The WSL is “thrilled to be working with Josh to return a fan and surfer favorite into the competitive mix,” said WSL CEO Sophie Goldschmidt.

Fans will see an early preview during the Surf Ranch Pro on Sept. 6 in Lemoore, California, as the WSL will host an Air Exhibition that is scheduled after Saturday’s CT competition. Along with Albee Layer and Chippa Wilson, there will also be two CT surfers (that are yet to be announced) that will join them in the above-the-lip spectacle in the man-made perfection.
