Surfing America, the national governing body for surfing in the USA, is proud to bring the 6th annual SIMA Surfing America USA Championships presented by Verizon Wireless to the southside of the Huntington Beach Pier, August 25-30, 2009.

The Surfing America USA Championships decides the undisputed USA Surfing champions by pooling pre-qualified athletes from the top amateur organizations in the United States. Invited athletes represent one or more of the following Surfing America Recognized Organizations or Series:

The Eastern Surfing Association (ESA)
Hawaii Surfing Association (HSA)
National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA)
Texas Gulf Surfing Association (TGSA)
Western Surfing Association (WSA)

At the conclusion of Sunday's finals top finishers in Under 18 Boys, Under 16 Boys and Under 18 Girls will be named to the 2009 PacSun USA Surf Team which will compete for the United States in the 2010 Quiksilver/ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in New Zealand this January.

Per United States Olympic Committee guidelines, all competing athletes are United States citizens. Thousands of amateur surfers from California, Hawaii, Texas, and nine East Coast states competed in local contests and regional championship events--followed by the American Surfing Championships and/or the NSSA Nationals--in order to qualify as the nation's best and reach this pinnacle.
