But these aren’t ones you’ll be taking to the beach, these three selections are meant for the coffee tables and poured over while escaping the heat of summer, plotting your next surf trip and immersing yourself in the culture of surfing. Happy reading.

It visits people like photographer Jeremy Koreski who is dedicated to the bitter-yet-fruitful-ness of the Canadian coastlines.

A decade ago if I had told you I surf in New York City on a fairly consistent basis you would’ve laughed at me. Nowadays, it’s fairly common knowledge that the city that never sleeps does in fact have surf.
Rockaway Beach is the closet to the city and only a short train ride out on the A train. A melting pot of a surf culture, it houses any and all kinds just like NYC itself.
Amateur photographer Andreea Waters has been a fixture of the Rockaway scene for the last few years, and she is out there whether it’s 20-degrees or 90-degrees, capturing images and the feeling of what it’s like surfing so close to New York City.
In her new project Surf NYC (from Schiffer Publishing), Waters focuses on this feeling and some of the people that best represent what it means to be a New York City surfer. With some incredible photographs strewn throughout, Waters shows how surfing in NYC is anyone’s game — from amateur all the way to professional.
We as surfers who travel tend to eat a wide array of food while on our surf explorations. But sometimes we probably don’t really think about it all that much, and we may even forget the delicious post-surf meals we’ve scarfed down because it was merely replacing loads of calories we lost after three sessions that day. Two men have been looking to change that mindset a bit for the traveling surfer.
Johannes Riffelmacher and Thomas Kosikowski are two friends who travel the world and love cooking. Their project Salt & Silver is one that explores how traveling for waves and the food one eats along the way go hand-in-hand. Their latest expedition was one from Mexico all the way down to Chile, eating and surfing everything along the way.
Part travel guide, part recipe book, Salt & Silver: Travel, Surf, Cook, Latin America (from Andrews McMeel Publishing) is a book that you can pore over for details on how to travel to say Nicaragua, how to make homemade surf wax or how to make any sort of Central American taco your mind can conjure up.
One of the few books that combines surf travel with food, it’s certainly one your stomach will thank you for this spring.
