NORTH SHORE, Oahu/Hawaii – (Tuesday, March 11, 2013) – Eighty of the world's top pro junior surfers are preparing to take on surfing's most famous wave: the Banzai Pipeline, at the 2nd Annual North Shore Surf Shop Pipe Pro Junior, presented by Da Hui and Rusty, from March 12-22. The event is an ASP-rated 2-star Junior Men's and 1-star Junior Women's competition.
It will be an historic event for Junior surfing and for Hawaii, with all of the action will be broadcasted live for viewers worldwide via transworldsurf.com. A field of 64 Junior Men and 16 Junior Women have gathered from around the globe, including surfers from Peru, Brazil, Costa Rica, France, Japan, Australia and mainland USA.
Top USA junior surfers include: Parker Coffin, Ian Crane, and Taylor Clark, joining Hawaii juniors like the Moniz brothers, the McNamara brothers, Eala Stewart, Luke Shepardson and Koa Rothman.
The event is a joint effort between organizers Shane Beschen, Liam McNamara and Banzai Productions, and will show that Hawaii not only has some of the best waves in the world, but also a fresh crop of rising surf stars and future world champions with the infrastructure to support them. The surf forecast looks favorable for the event to get off to a quick start with the first day possibly running on Wednesday, March 13.
