2012 MayDay Memorial Surf Classic—In Loving Memory of Dollie Sue Watson

Last May, the inaugural MayDay Memorial Surf Classic went off without a hitch at the Flagler Beach Pier. The goal was set to raise awareness of heart disease by honoring the life of Dollie Sue Watson, who passed away in December of 2006 to heart disease; the #1 cause of deaths in women.

This year's event will raise funds towards the MayDay Memorial Foundation, the non-profit organization created as a result of the proceeds from the 1st annual surf contest. The MayDay Memorial Foundation's goals are to continue raise awareness of heart disease, encourage prevention and healthy life style, and to provide aide and free screenings to detect heart disease to uninsured and low income people in our community.

This year's event will include divisions for everyone. From long board to short board, and Masters to Minnows (parent assisted young children), and even the NVR Strings Women's Pro, as well as the Finn's Beachside Pub Men's Pro. There will also be a silent action to kick things off the night before the contest, an all-day raffle with great prizes, awards ceremony for the finalists and a memorial paddle out to honor Dollie Sue Watson.
