CJ Hobgood survived, so it's OK to laugh. The 2001 world champion came out of this tangle with a Portuguese rock somehow avoiding serious injury and emerging only with a cut toe. Hobgood was freesurfing at Guincho after being eliminated from the Cascais Billabong Pro. “I took off and said to Felipe Toledo, ‘Check out this air, grom,'” Hobgood told GrindTV.com. “I was claiming it to Felipe and actually was about to turn around and lie down to go in. That’s when I saw something black in front of me. I was so lucky; I hit the rock with my chest and then was bundled over. I’m still amazed how I didn’t faceplant.”
