Belgian surfer struck by lightning and killed while surfing in Bali

The 34-year-old Belgian was in the middle of a surf lesson.

According to multiple outlets, a Belgian surfer was struck and killed by lightning while surfing in Bali near the Canggu area on Sunday afternoon.

Magicseaweed tells that 34-year-old “Denis Andre Dasoul was hit during a rainstorm yesterday, while surfing in front of the Pantai Batu Bolong Temple at Batu Bolong Beach.”

Dasoul was staying at the Villa Ngeluwungan in Mengwi and was in the midst of a surf lesson when the lightning strike occurred. According to Coconuts Bali, Dasoul and his instructor were both immediately struck down by the lightning and fell off their boards.

Witnesses rushed to rescue the pair from the water. Attempts made to resuscitate Dasoul on the beach were unsuccessful. Dasoul was rushed to Canggu Medika Hospital, but could not be revived. The condition of the instructor is not known at this time.
