The Oakley Arctic Challenge which has recently been tagged as the ‘The antithesis of the Olympics’ raged through Olso, Norway. Heavy hitters took to the course laying it all on the line for their chance to win the ‘contest from the riders, for the riders.’
The finals proved to be an impressive showdown of international powerhouses igniting off of features on the slopestyle course showing the progression of snowboarding.
Olympic silver medalist, Peetu Piiroinen stomped his way to first with a score of 90.6. His run included a boardslide, to Cab 5, backside 10 late cork, backside rodeo and a huge frontside crail that posted the highest hip score of the day. Torstien Horgmo came in a close second earning a 88.9 with a run that consisted of a sick 540 rail combo, a boardslide to cab 270 out, huge switch backside 12, frontside 7 and a final backside 7 transfer over the hip. Hot on his heels was hometown hero Mikkel Bang who wowed judges with his explosive style and massive backside 12s.
Piiroinen’s win was awarded with 1000 TTR ranking points meaning he has an unassailable lead in the TTR World Ranking. He has already claimed the overall title as the Swatch TTR World Champion, and will be crowned with this award at the Burton US Open at Stratton Mountain in two weeks.
