Chelone Miller, a popular snowboarder and the younger brother of U.S. Ski Team star Bode Miller, has died.
SkiRacing.com is reporting that Miller, who had a history of head injuries and once spent 11 days in a coma, died Sunday in his sleep of an apparent epileptic seizure. He was 29.
News of Miller’s passing was just beginning to circulate via social media Monday afternoon.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of one of the members of our family and community,” Snowboarder magazine stated on its Facebook page. “Chelone Miller was not only a legend on both sides of the country, but a great friend with a huge heart and a deep love of snowboarding. Our thoughts go out to the Miller family.”
Snowboarder shared this sentiment and others on its website: “Last night, Chelone Miller passed away, and snowboarding lost one of the good ones. The true ones. The entire staff of Snowboarder magazine would like to send our condolences to the Miller family and all of Chelone's friends and loved ones.”
Miller lived in Mammoth Lakes, California.
Olympian and fellow Mammoth resident Mason Aguirre tweeted on Monday: “Oh my god RIP Chelone Miller what a legend I’m in shock and in tears right now thoughts out to the Miller family.”
