A chairlift at a mountain resort in Gudauri, Georgia malfunctioned today and injured eight people. In video footage of the incident, the ski lift can be seen operating at high speed, flinging riders off and trapping some.
According to Georgia Today, the ski lift malfunctioned and was running at twice the normal speed. Pravda Report says that chairlift operators caused the lift to malfunction, but this is not confirmed or known how.
Pravda Report also tells that the chairlift was “stopped only a minute or two later,” and that rescuers arrived on the scene in seven minutes.
A second video angle confirms the chaos and terror that the incident caused. Remaining riders were left with the choice of being whipped off or jumping off and possibly being run over. The first video angle above shows how empty chairs were bashing the line as they came around the corner.
Amazingly, no one was seriously injured (or killed for that matter).
