For the third year in a row, venerable San Francisco skate shop FTC hosted the “For the Cash 3″ skate contest. Previously held inside the shop, this year the crew decided to mix it up and hold the event in their spacious and tree-filled backyard. Coupled with a cash infusion from Levi's, the event was ramped up (pun intended) to include a first place prize of $10,000 and ultimate Bay Area bragging rights.

After weeks of construction, the backyard skatepark was ready to host the gathering. "The initial intent was to create an event that was for the guys in the event, not necessarily the spectators," says Ando Nesia of FTC skate shop. Nestled in and around the ramps and obstacles were large trees that the contestants used just as much as the man-made objects. All the commotion had nearby Haight-Ashbury residents peering down from their apartments in awe as Jack Fardell took top honors in a field that saw Tristan Funkhouser, Evan Smith, Auby Taylor, Corey Duffel, Evan Smith, and more top skaters having a blast in what TransWorld Skateboarding called, "The realest backyard skate contest there is!"
Levi’s Skateboarding and FTC 'For The Cash 3' results:
1st Jack Fardell $10,000
2nd Tristan Funkhouser $2,500
3rd Evan Smith $1,500
Best trick: Tom Remillard (A hat full of cash)
