Evan Doherty is only 8, but already busting moves on a skateboard that many of his older peers cannot pull off. This week he became the youngest skater to land a 720-degree rotation, or two full rotations, on a vert ramp (see video). This caps a summer during which “Big E” also nailed a 540 and a McTwist. These moves are in the arsenal of only the world’s top vert skaters.

Some are referring to Doherty as the future of vert skating, and once he gets more strength in his little legs he’s going to become a force. To be sure, it seems only a matter of time before he lands a 900, a move that only six vert skaters have successfully nailed since Tony Hawk became the first in 1999.

Present-day stars such as Pierre Luc-Gagnon, Shaun White, Bucky Lasek and Bob Burnquist aren’t ready to move over just yet. But they are impressed.

As for the legendary Hawk, on Wednesday morning he tweeted: “Today’s news: 8-year-old @evansk8r can do 720’s: http://say.ly/fohHSA” RT Please!”
