Detroit to host Ryan Sheckler’s skateboard contest again this weekend

Red Bull Hart Lines brings elite skaters to Detroit's Hart Plaza.

Detroit is set to yet again welcome Ryan Sheckler’s uniquely formatted skateboard contest to Hart Plaza this weekend. The third year of Red Bull Hart Lines, the 23-skater roster is stacked to the gills with talent.

“Seeing the field and so many big names taking part, it really starts to get the adrenaline pumping!” the contest visionary Sheckler told Red Bull. “Obviously I had to miss the 2016 event, so I’m counting down the days to my first run.”

Sheckler continued in a press release, “Getting injured in 2016 sucked, but it was a great opportunity for me to fully heal. So amped to be coming back to Detroit in 2017 healthy and having fun on my skateboard again!”

An event that offers a two-lane course, skaters are required to skate each lane once in separate runs. On their third run, which lane they skate is up to them. The top score from each lane based on style and skill is averaged and then balanced against the quickest time. All in front of Detroit crowds.

The likes of Sheckler himself, last year’s winner Nyjah Huston, Torrey Pudwill, Felipe Gustavo, Chaz Ortiz, Ryan Decenzo and more elite skaters will all be throwing down at Hart Plaza.

This year also marks the first time a female skater will be part of the event. Brazilian Leticia Bufoni will try her hand at showing up the boys.
