Fall is the perfect time to hit the road. Photo: Courtesy of Indian Motorcycles

With California’s scorching temps soon coming to a close, it’s time to start thinking about plotting your motorcycle trips east of the 5 Freeway.

Sure, it’s been fun riding along the Pacific Coast Highway while the waves are good and the beaches are cool, but there’s nothing like sparking the flame of your inner Peter Fonda and ripping through the desert on a campaign for a “humdinger” of a good time. Here are six two-wheel road trips you won’t want to miss this fall.

Babes Ride Out

This year, Babes Ride Out has rented out the entire 40 acres of Joshua Tree Lake Campground to produce their largest event to date, Babes Ride Out 6.

From Oct. 18-21, this ladies only riding event (sorry dudes) is set to be another smashing good time. And if you don’t ride a motorcycle, don’t fret … Babes Ride Out welcomes cars, trucks, and RVs. Included with your ticket is free beer (until they run out), live music, and hands-on classes to learn some of the lost arts of motorcycle maintenance.

Make sure to get your tickets in advance, as they do sell out every year.

Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride

On Sunday, Sept. 30, more than 120,000 distinguished gentlefolk in 650 cities around the globe will don their cravats, tustle their ties, and sit astride their classic styled motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for men's health.

So bring you finest manners, your most dashing drapes, and your biggest grin while you ride amongst your style-savvy peers. Registration for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is free (Although you do need a bike that meshes with DGR's style guide) and each rider has the opportunity to set up their own profile page on DGR's website to help raise donations for a worthy cause: Movember.

Ready to do some serious soul searching? Integratron, in Landers, California (near Joshua Tree) – a historical geomagnetic vortex – is waiting for you in the Mojave Desert.

Ride out and rejuvenate with their signature experience that consists of a 60-minute sonic healing session where crystal bowls are played live within the sound chamber. This unique experience is great for those seeking internal wisdom or looking for enlightening relaxation with friends or loved ones.

Integratron has restored balance and inspirited creativity to many famous visitors including Josh Homme and Jason Mraz. This experience sells out in advance, so make reservations well in advance of your trip.

Moto Beach Classic

Okay, not every fall moto excursion needs to take you east of the 5 Freeway. In fact, this year’s Moto Beach Classic in Huntington Beach will have your feet planted in the sand as you watch Super Hooligan Flat Track racing and then throw your hands up in the air to a slew of killer bands including headliners The Offspring, Pennywise, Social Distortion and Rancid.

This year, Roland Sands Designs intends to smash it out of the park with their moto-centric festival that has become one of the most entertaining and authentic moto events to hit California’s Coast. The event runs the weekend of Oct. 27-28 and showcases flat track racing, drag racing, stunt show, art show, music and more.

Julian and Wolves

A must-visit if you’re in Julian. Photo: Courtesy of Roy Toft/California Wolf Center

Apple harvest is just around the corner, so take a ride up the Cuyamaca Mountains to Julian – a premier mountain getaway with roots dating back to the 1870’s gold rush days.

Only an hour ride east of San Diego, Julian makes for a perfect single-day ride or overnight riding and camping combo. Don't forget to take home one (or several) of Julian’s famous apple pies.

For those seeking something special, plan visit to the California Wolf Center and learn about wolf recovery while taking an intimate guided tour of the foundation’s resident wolves. The California Wolf Center focuses on the successful coexistence of humans and wolves. Make sure to call or sign up in advance, as reservations are required.

Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace

Pioneertown was founded by Hollywood investors who set out to create an Old West set that was actually worth visiting – more than 50 films and shows were filmed here in the ’40s and ’50s.

Today, the most exciting feature in Pioneertown – other than taking a selfie in the faux jail cell – is visiting Pappy & Harriet’s (both a restaurant and music venue). Hop on your bike and take a short ride through the desert to Pioneertown to see a show or grab dinner. You can camp in Pioneertown Corrals for $10 and not have to worry about driving at night. Check their calendar for the fall show calendar and maybe we'll see you this November for the Meat Puppets gig.
