The next big move for riders and teams in 2019 is official. For months we’ve noted that Joey Savatgy’s time in the 250 class was up at the end of this race season but there was no certainty which 450 team would sign him for his rookie season in the 450 class. Early in the summer we learned that Savatgy was in talks to transition from Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki to Monster Energy Kawasaki, news that was confirmed to us Saturday at the Ironman Motocross.
Savatgy and the team wasted no time getting to work on the big bike, as he joined the team for the first true practice day aboard the 2019 KX450 at Fox Raceway on Tuesday morning. The duration of Savatgy’s contract has not yet been announced by Kawasaki, but his first race with the team will occur at the 2018 Monster Energy Cup in October.
Savatgy’s move means that Josh Grant and Kawasaki have parted ways. It’s currently unclear what will happen with Grant.
