Ciaran Naran is an amateur motocross racer chasing the dream so many young riders share. He's dedicated to his craft, and his results are reflective of that. He has recently made some big changes, one being the move from intermediate class to pro. We know that he has a bright future and a lot to look forward to in his 2018 season. We got a chance to chat with him about himself, his career, and goals for 2018. This is what we learned.

In racing, it's always important to set goals. What are your goals for the 2018 season?

This 2018 race season I recently made the move from the intermediate class to the pro class, and I am really looking forward to seeing what my capabilities are as my amateur racing career is almost over. My goals for the 2018 race season are to earn all my road to Supercross points and to be on the podium at most of this year's amateur nationals.

In this evolving sport, it's important to always be making changes. Any changes that you have made from last season to this season?

Last year I had a great year of racing and had great people supporting me. As for the upcoming season, there are no major changes in my program, and I am really excited to continue working with all the amazing brands that have supported me throughout the years.

What has been the highlight of your racing career so far?

Last year was one of the best years in my amateur career for me, and to finish top-five in both Schoolboy 2 and 250 B limited at Loretta's was a huge accomplishment. I have been working really hard with my current trainer Ryan Fedorow, and am excited to continue the partnership and see what we can accomplish in 2018.

When it comes to your products and sponsors, who has been a critical part of your program?

For starters, I’d like to thank Husqvarna and 3 Bros. Racing for the great platform. I have a great group of companies behind me, and I couldn’t do it without them. Cometic Gaskets, Hinson Racing, FMF, Vertex Pistons, DT1 Filters, Moto Tassinari, Maxima, and Dunlop Tires help my bike awesome, reliable power, and help it hook up on the track. ProX brakes are long lasting and very responsive. The chains I run are also from ProX Racing Parts, and they are very lightweight and very durable. Motocutz and Acerbis keep the bike looking good, and Fox Racing, Arai, Dragon, and Pod keep me looking good and protected. I’d also like to give a shoutout to Monster Energy, Motion Pro, Nihilo, Matrix, Guts, Stanton Handcrafted, ODI, Ryan Fedorow, and the Blomfield MX Ranch for all their support.

What venue are you looking forward to the most this season?

The track I'm looking forward to riding the most this season would definitely be Loretta's. I look forward to riding this track because it is one of the most physically demanding tracks on the amateur circuit, and I love to challenge myself.

What role do your parents play in your racing program? Do they travel with you to all your races?

My parents play a huge role in my racing program. Without my parents, I would not be able to race. My parents are two of the most hard-working people I've ever met and will do anything to give me a chance to prove myself. My parents support me so much, and I would definitely not be where I am today without them.

What are your thoughts on Supercross? What are your goals in that regard?

I believe Supercross is one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports in the world. My goal for the near future is to be on a Supercross start gate. With lots of hard work and dedication, I believe it's very possible.

What is the most difficult part of being a motocross racer?

For me, the most difficult part about being a motocross racer is the fact that I'm only 17 years old and still in school. Being well-rounded academically is a big goal of mine. An average day for me consists of driving to the track, which is close to two hours for me, training on the bike, going to the gym, cycling, heading home to get my bike work done for the next day, and on top of it all trying to complete my school assignments.

What do you enjoy most about being a motocross racer?

Anytime I get to ride my dirt bike it is a blast for me. I look forward to riding each and every day and am blessed with all the opportunities I've been given to do what I love.
