What I Ride - Kris Fox

First off, how's it going? What have you been up to?
It's going great! I've just been traveling, riding, and enjoying life with great people. I recently got to go on a trip through the entire country of New Zealand, which was something that I will remember and take with me for the rest of my life. Can't thank the guys over at Red Bull NZ enough for that one! From there I spent some time on the Gold Coast of Australia at Jason Watts' house and had a blast cruising around with him and some awesome locals at all of their local spots. Now I am back in the states soaking up some time at home for a bit! I am extremely stoked and thankful for everything that has been going on.

I noticed you got that official X Games invite…how psyched are you on that?
An official X Games invite is seriously a dream come true and I am overly excited to go have fun with everyone. I was fortunate enough to get an alternate invite to last year's X Games and seriously had a blast, so I can't wait for this year! I can't thank BMX and everyone in it enough for all of the good times!

Did you modify any parts or do anything special?
In all honestly, no. The only thing I can think of along the lines of "modification" is running my chain and cranks really tight, but that's about it. Other then that, I run my SE frame and Demolition Parts as is!

What part (or angle of a part/frame/etc.) are you most particular about one your bike?
I am pretty particular with my front end. I like to have my bars set up pretty low and I like to push them forward past my forks a little bit. I feel like that forward angle to them gives me a little bit of leverage when I am pumping up a quarter and getting ready to air. Sometimes it takes me a couple tries to get them in the right spot, but when I do, my bike feels perfect.

What else is really specific to you when it comes to bike setup?
Aside from my front end, like I stated before, I like my cranks and chain set up pretty tight. Once I start to feel my chain get even a little bit of slack, I'll pull my wheel back before the next session.

Ever think of throwing on a set of pegs?
No, putting pegs on never really crosses my mind. I love watching my friends ride pegs and I love watching people do their thing with them, but they are simply not really for me personally. I am naturally goofy footed, so I never really liked the feeling of my heel hitting my back peg when I am pumping through transition. I have my preferred riding style and it is something I have a lot of fun doing, so I just continue to do that and watch all my heros and friends kill it with pegs!

You run your chain really tight…why's that?
Well, I feel like I ride a lot off the back of my bike. Pumping through bowls and certain tricks I do usually requires me leaning away from my bike more. I feel when my cranks are hard to move, it gives me more of a stable platform to move around on my bike a little bit. If my cranks are loose, I feel like I am not as comfortable letting my bike move around under me and it is only a matter of time before I slip a pedal. It's just something I have always done, my cranks always have to be tight.

It may just be me, but there's a bit of a resurgence of dudes willing to blast stuff in BMX. Agree or am I crazy?
Definitely, and I feel like there has been a lot of dudes that have been blasting for a while now. It's so fun to watch and see everyone's different approaches on a certain set-ups. I get stoked on anyone that does what they want on their bike and in life in general, so I am just happy to see people enjoying what they are doing. Lets just all have fun together as one!

What's the rest of the year looking like for you?
As of right now, finishing up some small projects here at home. From there things speed up with X Games and maybe U.S. Open (I'm not sure when invites come out for that). Demolition has some cool trips coming up that I am looking forward to and in a few months I will start filming another web edit project that has been on my mind. The entire time I will be having fun with my friends and enjoying life. I live a very free lifestyle so whatever gets blessed into my life I will be thankful for and work hard at it!
