I’ve been a long time fan of Matt Roe’s riding and having just recently gotten to witness it firsthand, the nuances and little tweaks in Matt’s riding make even the simplest thing Matt does worth keeping your eyes on. Dude is downright a magician on a bike. Ruben-esque, I’d say. But enough of the strokefest, here’s his Mutiny and Fly equipped whip…

You were out in Cali for a minute and you're staying in the States for a bit…what brought you out here and what's on the schedule?
Yea, in Cali for a few days filming for the release of my signature parts line, then driving over to Vegas for Interbike to hang out, ride, and show off the new stuff. After Vegas I'm gonna head over to Austin for a month to ride, film and do all sorts (heavy tanning session). Texas Toast will be on the same time I'm there so that’ll loads of fun. :)

You're obviously running your signature frame from Mutiny, the Conjuerer…what went into the design process and are you psyched with how it turned out?
Ah, I love it! Had a signature frame for a while now, and gets better and better. I remember before having one, you had to modify your bike and stuff. I always kinda new what geometry would feel good and looked rad, then Gaz (owner of mutiny) asked do I want a frame and I jumped at the chance! This year we made a few changes by calling it the Conjuerer and adding a rad little wishbone with the Mutiny symbol pressed in it.

How are you liking that Fly Tripod system?
The system is rad! It looks so clean and really easy to put together.

Anything else in the works with Fly or Mutiny…product or otherwise?
Through Fly, I'm gonna have a set of grips. So excited get it started. I’m sooo bloody picky when it comes to grips, so now I get the chance to make some for me, woohoo [laughs]!

Did you modify any parts or do anything special?
Not anymore :). Everything comes perfect! The only thing I cut is the fork steer tube down.

What part (or angle of a part/frame/etc.) are you most particular about one your bike?
The one I tweak over the most is my front-end setup. Bar position, height of the bars, and stem. It takes me a little while to get the perfect feel but it's worth the wait [laughs].

What else is really specific to you when it comes to bike setup?
I try making my bike feel comfortable, easy to ride, and stable. Tyre pressure changes every time I ride [laughs].

Tell me a quick story about Gaz…
Gaz [laughs], he’s nuts! He comes from the same area I do (Derbyshire), he’s vegan, has massive passion for BMX, and rides everyday. He has a cat called princess who is in charge! Him and his wifey (Vikki) work so hard to make Mutiny and give us the chance to ride bikes in beautiful places and meet amazing people.

If ya got 'em, this is where the thanks go…
So many thank you’s!! Thanks to Gaz and Vikki at Mutiny for the opportunity and sticking by me. Povah, David and Lee over at Fly for the dream. Ian Morris and Povah at etnies for the amazing shoes and cloths. 20/Twenty BMX Mike. Everyone at Seventies. And me Mam and Dad :)
