The Third Annual Old School Reunion
For the third year in a row, Steve Swope's Old School Reunion went off at Woodward West. A freestyle weekend full of riding, partying, reminiscing, and yes, progression, it just seems to get better and better year after year.
Plenty of freestyle legends were spotted throughout the weekend riding and hanging out including Mark Eaton, Fred Blood, Dennis McCoy, Rick Allison, Dino Deluca, Maurice "Drob" Meyer, Large Ray, Todd Anderson, Hugo Gonzalez, Jose Yanez, Gary Pollak, Brian Blyther, Scotty Freeman, Rich Sigur, Mat Hoffman, Ron Wilkerson, Pete Augustin, Dave Nourie, Eddie Fiola, and many, many more.
Just as there were plenty of legends floating around, there were numerous old bikes on display. Nothing beats seeing classic freestyle bikes and the guys who used them to their fullest, and paved the way with them, all in one place.
An impromptu Rad reunion went down as Jose Yanez (credited as the first person to backflip on a BMX bike), Bill Allen (the actor who played Cru Jones in the movie Rad), and Eddie Fiola (no introduction needed) were all in attendance. Believe it or not, Rad was released 25 years ago.
The vert ramp saw heavy sessions from Hoffman, Eggleston, DMC, Wilkerson, Tabron, Coco, Blyther, Sigur, Yella, and Andy Shohara. When those guys were on the ramp many stopped to take it all in.
Shea Nyquist was one of the first to bomb the Megaramp's 50-footer. His brother Ryan also took it on and 360'd it before the session was over. Lance Mosley flipped it, and Cameron Birdwell floated a couple of huge superman seatgrabs over it.
A number of guys took on the Megaramp's massive quaterpipe as well. Hoffman and Shohara blasted big and Nyquist and Ben Snowden also did some impressive airs out of the beast.
There was a constant flatland session going on in The Hanger with guys like Dylan Worsley, Todd Carter, Anthony Buglio, Joe Loumena, John Yull, and more laying down some magic. The after party's traditional flatland jam was again in full effect, with Dave Nourie leading the charge, and Yella, Buglio, Dan Hubbard, and a few others getting into the mix. Gumby made his annual appearance as well.
Thanks to Steve Swope, Woodward, and everyone who made the third installment of the OS Reunion an awesome time.
