Gisele, Chanel and surfing get weird

'She did not do her own stunts for this piece'

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen, Chanel, and surfing have combined in the latest ad for the No. 5 fragrance. The short film above was directed by Baz Luhrmann (“Moulin Rouge,” “The Great Gatsby,” and “Strictly Ballroom”), who says the idea came to him a decade ago. "It was ten years ago, and we were with Karl Lagerfeld in Biarritz,” Luhrmann told allure.com. “And if it seems weird to you that there’s surfing in a Chanel No. 5 ad, that’s the point."

The surfing was shot in Montauk, New York, and Fiji, with just a little bit of blue screen additions. "She’s a great surfer and she can stand up on the board,” said Luhrmann, thus adding a new, wider, definition to the term “great surfer.” Although if you hadn't already worked it out, it isn't actually the Brazilian supermodel that is backdooring the big lefthander in the film. "She did not do her own stunts for this piece. We didn’t want to put her in any kind of danger,” said Luhrmann.
