The brand, known for their goggles, helmets, sunglasses and protective equipment for skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking, is now moving into creating performance-oriented sunglasses that hold up to the rigors expected of them.
After founding the company 10 years ago, Ted Ligety, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time World Champ in alpine skiing, and Carlo Salmini, have focused on creating gear that can withstand the pressures of an extreme lifestyle.
The Boost sunglasses are the latest iteration in the brand’s journey.
According to the Kickstarter, Shred’s Boost sunglasses offer unparalleled performance due to their construction, specifically of the lenses.
The Boost sunglasses will feature liquid-cast urethane lenses, rather than industry-standard CR-39 or polycarbonate lenses. Shred says that the liquid-cast urethane lenses “best impact resistance and durability”, and that by liquid-casting the lenses, ensure that they are “free of distortion.”
The campaign was launched on Wednesday, and is already well on its way to being funded. If the campaign is fully funded, purchasers can expect to receive their Boost sunglasses December 2017.
The Shred Boost sunglasses are available through the campaign for $110, and will ultimately be available on Shred’s website for between $160 and $200.
