Nashville-based Anderson Design Group, an award-winning graphic design firm, has just released 59 Illustrated National Parks, Celebrating 100 Years of Wilderness and Wonder, a project five years in the making that throws a visual birthday party for the National Park Service’s centennial.
Today, 27 states have national parks, along with the U.S. territories of American Samoa and the Virgin Islands. California claims the most (nine), followed by Alaska, Utah and Colorado.
The coffee-table book, featuring iconic prints and images from parks around the nation, will not only serve as a conversation point this holiday season, but might just inspire some trips to parks you’ve yet to visit in 2016.
Written by father and son Joel and Nathan Anderson, the 160-page, 9×12-inch hardcover book features original poster illustrations, photography, facts and stories about the 59 parks and people representing the great American wilderness. 59 Illustrated National Parks includes 71 full-color posters from Anderson Design Group’s Art & Soul Collection, including 12 original oil paintings of national parks by Kai Carpenter.
The book also features wildlife and scenic photos of each park, along with stats, travel tips, an illustrated map and commentary on the National Park Service. Joel Anderson calls the art project “an invitation to experience the adventure, awe and splendor of these parks.”
